Founding Principal's Message

 

Lumen Christi is a wonderful school that has its origins in the vision of the local community. The College is still a very young school yet has achieved extraordinary achievements since 2001 when officially opened by retired Archbishop Francis Carroll.

Back in 1999 the Catholic community on the Far South Coast could see the need for a Catholic Education K-12 pathway for students in the coastal, rural and Monaro regions. Today, Lumen Christi is a College where our Motto ‘Be the Light of Christ’ is lived in the daily life of the College and a focus given to continual improvement in quality teaching and learning. 

With a dedicated staff, College Community Council, a committed parent body, as well as very supportive parishes, Lumen Christi will continue to enrich the life of every student who graces the classrooms of our College. Pastoral Care, transition to secondary school and student leadership are all important for the students as the College continues to develop the Restorative Practices model of Pastoral Care and Welfare across all years.

 

Lumen Christi belongs in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn and is led by staff members in the Catholic Education Office who are committed to ensuring our schools meet statutory requirements and a Religious Education curriculum that enhance the teachings of the church; a personal relationship with Christ and ensuring the history of the past informs the future. We are blessed to have Parish Priests in Pambula and Bega, visit the College on a regular basis. Their interest, active involvement and support is a vital component of College life and very much appreciated by our staff, students and the wider College community.

We are a proud school and the staff holds the spirit, culture and traditions of the College as vital to the formation of the students as we educate future leaders of society. We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of the land, the Yuin people, on which Lumen Christi Catholic College stands. We are honoured to be able to use this site with the approval of the traditional owners for the purpose of providing the best education for all students. 

Lumen Christi is a dynamic learning environment where the spirit of our school is seen in the academic and across curricula achievements for all students regardless of age or need. Our standards are high but not unachievable and every student has the right to feel happy and safe within the daily life of the College
